4th Annual Seminar on Compliance in Financial Services: The Capital Requirements Directive
6 November 2008 - The Stanhope Hotel, Brussels
The financial market turmoil has been with us for over a year now, a year in which there has been an extremely urgent debate on what responses are required from industry and from regulators. From very early on in that debate, however, it has been clear that European leaders have viewed a revision of the capital requirements framework as a crucial component of the response. Council Conclusions were adopted early on pinpointing September 2008 as the date for the Commission to bring forward proposals.
Timed to take place just over a month after the Commission releases its legislative proposals, this one day interactive seminar will address the rationale for the changes proposed by the Commission, ask whether the Basel II framework has had time to prove its worth, examine whether the new proposals go too far or not far enough, whether the political pressure for a response to the financial market turmoil risks exacerbating the crisis, and looking at whether the framework proposed contributes to coherence across sectors and internationally.
The annual Houston Consulting / Epsilon financial services seminar brings together key policy-makers and stakeholders to discuss these and other issues. The event will be interactive with strong audience participation. Numbers will be kept within limits so as to maximise the opportunities for a genuine exchange between the participants.
